Have you ever
thought of becoming a Franciscan Sister?
Is God Calling you?
The Franciscans of Divine Providence is deeply committed to inclusivity and equality and earnestly seeks women candidates who feel called to our manner of Franciscan life
as well as to the ordained ministry.
Please contact us if you would like to become a member of our Order.

As an inclusive Order, we
welcome women to join us
Our vision for The Franciscans of Divine Providence is
to grow a contemporary religious Order, following a Franciscan charism, that
includes both women and men. As envisioned, we witness our Franciscan charism through dedicated lives of prayer and good works
in the same manner as do the men who join our Order. Women who pursue the religious life in the FDP, may become
Religious Sisters and may also prepare for Holy Orders as Deacons and Priests. They
are a model for women's spirituality and leadership in the Independent Catholic Church of today. Unlike many traditional religious orders, the women who join our Order will have an
equal voice in the direction and guidance of their spirituality and service as Franciscans of Divine Providence. Many so-called "Sister" communities
in other Churches are merely subordinate counterparts of male Orders and frequently are under
strict patriarchal authority. In the FDP, women members contribute to the creation
of
a hospitable environment in which women's spirituality, ministry and priesthood might be recognized and encouraged to flourish to the honor and glory of God and the whole Church. After the founding of the Franciscan Friars of Divine Providence in 1995,
+Bishop Russell F. Coates, Jr., FDP, our Order's Founder, sought to include women into the Order. He realized that the spiritual needs of men and women are uniquely different. He observed that in many "inclusive" Communities of both genders, men still seem to dominate and control most aspects of the Order. His vision
remains to create an Order whose members would be free to grow in ways that are unique to
both men's and women's goals and needs. In the Franciscans of Divine Providence
women are be accepted as full and equal members of our Order, as opposed to
being a subordinate "Sister" or "Companion" Order to a men's Order. Women who are interested in joining the Franciscans of Divine Providence should begin by downloading the Application for Admission and a copy of the Rule, and our
Basic Study List from this web site. The Sisters and the
Brothers follow the same general requirements for admission and live
according to the same Rule and Constitutions. Once you have carefully read and completed all of the the requirements of the application, mail your application and the other required
documents, including a recent photo, to the address below. Please click the e-mail link below if you have any questions about becoming a Sister. Please note that our applications process is a requirement for all candidates to our Order and must be submitted and approved before a candidate may enter the Order. It is the policy of the Franciscans of Divine Providence that we do not discriminate against qualified candidates based upon age, gender, racial, ethnic or national origin, physical challenges, marital status, sexual or affectional orientation, previous religious life experience, profession or ordination, work or professional background, socio-economic status, education, or place of residence.
Please read our Frequently Asked Questions page for more specific information. We strive to be a truly open and affirming Franciscan family.
