Franciscan Book of Daily Prayer

Approved by the TRINITARIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
for use by the
Members of the Franciscans of Divine Providence
as well as for the general use of the Laity and Clergy of the Church.

Prayer can take many forms. For Christians and others, prayer often takes the form of conversation, contemplation or meditation, but can also be experienced through performing good works. All prayer is really a form of spiritual communication directed toward God. For prayer to be beneficial, we must understand that it has three parts. First, we must learn to speak to God in some manner or form. Next, we need to listen for God's response, realizing that God will choose the time and form of the response. Lastly, if we have truly listened to the whisperings of God's Holy Spirit, we must act or respond in some meaningful way to God's reply. The last two points are the ones we often fail to do. We all want God to listen to us, but we seldom take time to listen to what God might be telling us in return. Often times, if we have heard God's answer, we choose not to act upon it.

Our Franciscan Book of Daily Prayer is one source you can use to help you to develop an ongoing conversational prayer with Jesus Christ. It is a compilation of Holy Scripture, various prayers, meditations and contemporary reflections that were selected and organized into a daily prayer book. It is divided into Morning, Noon and Evening prayers for each day of the week. We invite you to use our prayer book every day so as to participate in the spiritual, prayer life of the Universal Church as well as our Order.

While you are using our Franciscan Book of Daily Prayer, engaging in the reflections, and praying the scriptural passages for each day, imagine that your “Little Brother” from Assisi is present with you. He smiles the smile of one who sees himself as the least of God’s creatures but who, in spite of it, feels completely enveloped by God’s love. He says to you, “Know God’s love for you and live the Gospels. Above all, may Jesus give you peace.”
